The annual CUGC Easter expedition took us to the Long Mynd for a week of flying fun. The group consisted of 7 students (Timo, Matthew, Hayk, Hugh, Vu, Zach and Jasmine), as well CGC member Marek and CGC instructor Andrew.
Long Mynd has been home to the Midland Gliding Club since 1934, situated on a ridge; the site provides beautiful views over the Shropshire hills. It is one of the few clubs left that still occasionally launches gliders by bungee. Throughout the week we flew on the K13, K21 and the Twin Astir (aka Concrete Swan!). A large portion of time was also spent chasing sheep and horses away from the airfield by driving, rather aggressively, directly towards them with the club’s 4x4s.

Although the weather had not been ideal, we persevered through the inclement conditions and managed to achieve a decent number of flights. This was complemented by the excellent food cooked by Helen, the resident chef (including a fantastic steak night). All in all, an enjoyable week; we hope to visit again! Massive thanks to Andrew Watson for instructing, and everyone at the Long Mynd for hosting us.
